philwebring

A webring of philosophers’ personal websites.

A webring joins independent websites in a loop. Each member site carries a few small links: one to the previous site in the ring, one to this page, one to a random member, and one to the next site. Walk the loop sequentially or jump around randomly.

Every site here is the personal website of an individual philosopher, maintained by that person. Department pages are not eligible.

Ours is a field of ideas. The hope of this project is to bring the people who have those ideas that much closer together.

You need a personal, professionally maintained website, and you need to be a philosopher (whatever that word means to you). Then send your name and URL to [email protected]. I will respond with a unique SLUG.

Then, put this snippet somewhere on your site: a footer, a colophon, an about page. Replace YOUR-SLUG with the SLUG I sent you. Copy the slug whole. A slug with a character missing is not a member, and the links come back here instead of walking the ring.

The first line is optional. It gives the links the ring’s own look and follows any change made to that look. Leave it out and the links take your site’s styling instead.

The badge takes the alignment of whatever holds it. To center it, center that: wrap the snippet in <div style="text-align: center"> and </div>, or put it in a block your site already centers.

If your site gives you an embed box

Google Sites, Notion, Wix and Squarespace do not paste your HTML into the page. They put it in a small frame of its own. That frame reads nothing from the page around it, and it holds what you paste in its top left corner. Use this version there instead. It centers itself in the frame, and the three commented lines set where the badge sits and what color it takes.
